For Australian fan Zach Thomas, it all began with a simple visit to Singapore back in Season 2024/2025. His friend, who lives here, invited him to catch a local football match - one that happened to feature BG Tampines Rovers and the rest was history.
Back for More in the AFC Champions League Two
That enthusiasm brought Zach back to Singapore on October 23, 2025, specifically to watch BG Tampines Rovers face Pohang Steelers in the AFC Champions League Two after another fateful invitation, this time by a family member who was in Singapore, who invited him to fly in from Melbourne so they could catch the match together.
No tourist itinerary. No sightseeing plans. Just football.
From the moment he stepped into the ground, Zach was struck by the atmosphere.
“What a lovely stadium and atmosphere.”
It wasn’t the size of Bishan Stadium that mattered—it was the energy.
“Hearing the fans chant… seeing the players get around the crowd - it was amazing.”
Despite coming from Australia, home to some of the world’s most passionate crowds, Zach felt a familiar fire.
“It was a smaller stadium than back home, but every fan was chanting and cheering. It felt just like home.”
And the Stags rewarded his journey with a historic and memorable 1-0 win over Pohang Steelers.
“Being there in person was so much better than watching from home.”
What Zach expected to be another casual football outing became something much more.
The match became unforgettable the moment Zach noticed a familiar presence: our Australian in the heart of the Stags’ defence that night against Pohang Steelers - Dylan Fox.

“Dylan Fox was phenomenal - truly one of a kind.”
Fox’s calmness on the ball, defensive toughness, and commanding presence immediately stood out.
“Nothing got through him. He was phenomenal behind the ball.”
What started as passing interest toward another Australian turned into admiration. Fox didn’t just anchor the backline; he anchored Zach’s connection to the club. His performance planted the first seed of loyalty - one that grew far beyond that night.
“Seeing Dylan Fox and the boys play again was definitely worth the flight.”
From AFL Grounds to Bishan
Interestingly, Zach isn’t even someone who plays football much. His sporting roots started elsewhere.
“I play AFL back home, so I’ve always loved sport - but the Rovers’ passion stood out.”
For context, AFL (Australian Football League) is the top-tier competition for Australian rules football, a unique blend of speed, physicality, and endurance played on oval pitches. It is the most followed sport in Australia, with the Grand Final drawing millions of viewers.
Yet, even coming from a different sporting world, Zach immediately connected with the Stags’ heart, intensity, and unity on the pitch.
Football may not have been his first sport but passion speaks a universal language.
A Connection That Keeps Growing
Being among the supporters - feeling the roar, the unity, the emotion - made everything different. Stronger. More real.
That’s why Zach is already planning his next trip.
“I’ll definitely come back next year - maybe even for away games.”
His advice to anyone considering watching BG Tampines Rovers in person:
“Get down to a game - you won’t regret it.”
Whether you’re local or from across the world, Zach believes the Stags’ culture, energy, and passion are worth the journey.
“Amazing team and culture. It’s absolutely worth the trip.”
Back home, Zach remains a Melbourne Victory supporter. But now, he proudly carries two allegiances — one in Australia, and one right here in Singapore.
And who knows? Maybe one day, BG Tampines Rovers and Melbourne Victory will meet on Asia’s biggest stage…
