Stags Complete Comeback Against Defiant Cubs

After a gruelling midweek battle against FC Machida Zelvia in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Two, Our Stags returned to Singapore Premier League (SPL) action determined to bounce back from their continental heartbreak.
The skies had finally cleared following days of haze, setting the stage for Sunday night's encounter against Young Lions at Our Tampines Hub.
With a demanding fixture schedule ahead, Head Coach Nazri Nasir stressed the importance of having a strong squad capable of competing across multiple competitions.
"Players are always waiting for their moment," he shared ahead of the contest, highlighting the importance of squad rotation and opportunities for those ready to step up.
And with three points at stake, Our Stags were looking to maintain their perfect start to the SPL campaign.
Squad Depth on Display

Coach Nazri made six changes from the midweek encounter at Jalan Besar Stadium, opting for a more local-centric line-up.
Among those brought into the fold were Zharfan Rohaizad, Raoul Suhaimi, Irfan Najeeb, Amirul Haikal and Faris Ramli, alongside Yuma Kimura, who was handed his first SPL start of the season.
It was an opportunity for the refreshed Tampines side to showcase their quality, and they wasted little time getting into the action.
Chances Go Begging
Our Stags began on the front foot, earning an early corner just two minutes into the contest.
Four minutes later, Koya Kazama nearly produced a moment of magic from a free-kick, curling a beautiful effort against the crossbar. Amirul reacted quickest to the rebound, but the Young Lions goalkeeper managed to keep his effort out.
The opening 15 minutes belonged largely to Tampines, with Our Stags dominating possession and pressing forward relentlessly.
Seiga Sumi tried his luck from distance in the 16th minute, but his effort was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.
Young Lions, however, served a reminder of their attacking threat two minutes later when an inviting cross caught the Tampines defence off guard. Garv Sahoo was unable to make the decisive contact, allowing Our Stags to escape unscathed.
Seiga fired another effort wide in the 19th minute before Koya produced a brilliant piece of individual skill, leaving his marker on the ground before combining with Faris. The midfielder met the return cross with a header that sailed over the bar.
Barely a minute later, Yuma threaded a wonderful line-breaking pass into the path of Faris, who could only send his effort over.
The chances were coming thick and fast.
Young Lions threatened from a well-worked move in the 30th minute, but Jacob Mahler was perfectly positioned to head away the danger.
Seven minutes later, Raoul delivered a delightful ball towards the far post, where Amirul came agonisingly close to making the decisive touch.
For all their attacking pressure, however, Our Stags had nothing to show for it.
And just before the break, they were made to pay.
In the 44th minute, an unfortunate tangle between Jacob and Kai Whitmore inside the penalty area resulted in a penalty for Young Lions.
Daisuke Sakai stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
0-1.
Against the run of play, Our Stags found themselves trailing.
The half-time whistle brought a frustrating opening 45 minutes to a close. Tampines had created more than enough opportunities to find the breakthrough, but it was Young Lions who held the advantage.
A response was needed.
The Comeback Begins
Coach Nazri made an immediate change at the break, introducing Kenshin Yamazaki in place of Yuma to inject fresh attacking impetus down the flanks.
In the 55th minute, Kenshin showed exactly what he could offer, beating his defender with a brilliant run before delivering an inviting cross towards Hide Higashikawa.
The forward rose to meet it, but his header went agonisingly over the bar.
Four minutes later, Koya threatened from another free-kick, leaving the Young Lions goalkeeper scrambling as his effort drifted wide.
The pressure was mounting.
And just like the previous SPL encounter against Tanjong Pagar United, the breakthrough arrived shortly after the hour mark.

In the 60th minute, Koya whipped a pinpoint corner towards the near post, where Faris was waiting.
FR10 timed his movement to perfection, expertly steering his header into the back of the net.
1-1.
Our Stags were back on level terms, but they were far from finished.
The Floodgates Open Once Again
With momentum firmly on their side, Tampines continued to push forward in search of the lead.
In the 71st minute, substitute Takeshi Yoshimoto produced a moment of quality, delivering a stunning cross into the heart of the Young Lions penalty area.
Hide was there to meet it. Rising above his marker, the forward directed a precise header beyond the goalkeeper to complete the turnaround.
2-1 to Tampines.
From trailing at half-time to taking the lead, Our Stags had turned the contest on its head.
Ten minutes later, Kenshin produced arguably the moment of the night.
Picking up possession on the wing, the Japanese winger left his defender chasing shadows with a brilliant nutmeg before driving forward and unleashing a thunderous right-footed strike into the back of the net.
3-1.
A sensational individual effort, and Our Stags finally had some breathing space.
But there was still time for one final flourish. Deep into stoppage time, Koya delivered another exquisite corner into the area.
Hide rose highest above the crowd of players and powered his header home for his second goal of the evening.
4-1.
Another four-goal performance, and another second-half attacking masterclass from Our Stags.
The final whistle soon followed, confirming a hard-fought comeback victory at Our Tampines Hub.
Tampines Rovers 4-1 Young Lions.
Reflections
For the second consecutive SPL fixture, Our Stags found their scoring touch after the hour mark, with the floodgates opening in the second half.
But while the final scoreline suggested a comfortable victory, the contest was anything but straightforward.
Young Lions proved to be stubborn opponents, frustrating Tampines throughout the opening half and taking their opportunity to punish the hosts.
Koya Kazama was instrumental in orchestrating the comeback, providing two assists from set pieces. The introduction of fresh legs also proved decisive, with Kenshin Yamazaki and Takeshi Yoshimoto making an immediate impact and playing key roles in turning the contest around.
And while there is plenty to celebrate from another four-goal outing, Our Stags will know that there are areas of their performance that require improvement.
Three wins from three in the SPL, but consistency across the full 90 minutes will be key if Tampines are to achieve their ambitions this season.
